Club Nights

The club aims to be open every Friday, but due to the availability of members this is not always possible.  The club will always be opening for home matches - a list of which can be found here List of Maldon matches.

The home matches over the next two months are: Friday 6th Jan, 20th Jan, 3rd Feb, 10th Feb, and 24th Feb

New Venue!! We now meet at Maldon Library from 17th June

After being homeless for the past six months Maldon Chess Club now has a new venue.  We will continue to meet on Friday evenings at Maldon Library.

Maldon Library, White Horse Lane, Maldon, CM9 5FW

The next club meetings will be the 17th June,  24th June and 1st July.  After which we take our summer break reopening Friday 2nd September.

We are now on our summer 2015 break

The club is now closed for the summer. The first club night back will be on Friday 4th September, which is also our AGM.

Three Check Chess

For an interesting tactical variant of chess. Have you tried three check, where the person to check their opponent's king thrice wins. Former world champion Karpov was an expert at this variant. Here is a game played by a club member.

Which pieces have the best survival chances in a game

As a bit of fun, a computer programmer has calculated the percentage survival rate for each piece at the end of a game.

Aside from the King, on average h-pawns have the least chance of being taken during a game.
